Dwight Dively is currently the Director of Finance for the City of Seattle. Dwight is responsible for managing the Department of Finance, a 330-person department that provides financial management services for the City government. Such services include budgeting, licensing, tax collection, treasury services, accounting services, risk management, debt management, contracting, purchasing, and business technology, which manages the City's main financial computer application, "Summit". Dwight serves as a senior advisor in the Mayor's Cabinet, with direct oversight responsibilities for many Citywide and regional issues, and participates on numberous Citywide and regional financial and policy committees.
Dwight is an affiliate associate professor at the University of Washington's Evans School of Public Affairs, where he teaches classes in budgeting and public finance. He also is team-teaching in the School's new "integrated analytical sequence" this year. He was named Evans School's outstanding teacher for the 2005-06 and 2006-07 academic years. Dwight also teaches sessions for Cascade, the City of Seattle's PREP program, and several other regional organizations.
Dwight holds a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, a master's in public affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, and a Ph.C. in civil engineering from the University of Washington. He is the co-author of a textbook on cost-benefit analysis and has written many articles and technical reports. Dwight is active in several community organizations and serves as the regional chair for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. He received the Foundation's Elmer B. Staats Public Service Award in 1994. Dwight lives in Seattle with his wife and two children.
