Dick Thompson
JD, University of Washington Law School

 

Dick has taught state budget and fiscal policy to managers in state government since 1989. He is currently an affiliate professor at the University of Washington Evans School of Public Affairs where he teaches leadership, budget, integrated management, and intergovernmental relations and is an instructor for Cascade Executive Programs.

 

Dick retired from state service September 30, 2004. His last position was Interim Director of Athletics for the University of Washington. Prior to this appointment, he served as Director of Government Relations for the University of Washington.

 

During his professional career, Dick served in the administration of two governors, as the Director of the Office of Financial Management for Governor Gary Locke, and as the Director of the Department of Community Development, Chief of Staff, and Secretary of the Department of Social and Health Services for Governor Booth Gardner. He also served four years as president and chief professional officer of United Way of King County.

 

Dick's career included private legal practice, and 15 years of experience as City Attorney or City Manager for the cities of Snohomish, Everett, and Puyallup. In 2001, he was honored by the Seattle-King County Municipal League with its Warren G. Magnuson Award and by the University of Washington Law School Alumni Association with its 2001 Service Reception Award.
